Past

Skylen's mother fell completely and utterly in love with him the very moment she discovered she was pregnant with him. There was nothing within the world she looked forward to than the role as mother. She had great dreams of what it was going to be like. She imagined watching him achieve great milestone. However, these dreams would never come to pass. She would never watch her child grow. She would never hold his hand as he took his foot step. No, instead she would watch her newborn son killed right before her eyes. An event that many said influence her treatment of her future children. His killer was his own father.

His father loved Skylen, and it was because of his affection towards his son that he decided to end his life. Skylen inherited his parents telepathic abilities. This wasn't surprising, considering telepathy was one of the few inheritable abilities witches had and both his parents were telepaths. In fact, his father was drawn to his mother because she was a telepath. He wished to help her hone these abilities but drove her insane instead. He did not want to corrupt his son in the same way, and believing that avoiding such a thing was impossible decided to kill him instead. It was the only way to keep Skylen from suffering the same way his mother did.

The method he used to kill his son many would say was unneeded, and some might say that he did not need to kill Skylen in that manner but just needed to implant the memories inside people's head. His father knew Skylen's mother would have seen past those illusions and needed her to believe what happened more than the next person. He told Skylen's mother that he killed the child because he failed to live up to his expectation and threw him to a back of dogs to be devoured. He just couldn't allow her to believe that he killed their son because he loved him. The dogs wouldn't tear Skylen to shreds that day. He would be spared such a fate by his grandfather---his mother's father.

Skylen's mother had a rather close bond with her father, and he knew how much her son meant to her. She had often talked to him about her dreams for her child. How she was going to be a different type of mother than her own. He knew that watching her son die--especially in a horrific manner such as that--would break something inside of her, and he sought to save her from that pain. He leaped within the middle of the pack and tore his grandson from their grip, but he arrived too late. The dogs had killed Skylen, and he was killed by Skylen's father for intervening. Skylen's father pretended to toss his son's body in the trash. This was done to make his mother believe that Skylen had absolutely no value to his father.

However, he actually built a grand tomb for his son and planned on burying him there. It would never come to pass, or rather it should be said that Skylen would never end up being buried there. A peasant from the Paxton clan whom had admired his father from afar saw an opportunity to earn his affection. She thought that if she could take something that he viewed as utterly unworthy and turn it into something of great value that she would take the place of Skylen's mother inside his heart. She sought to revive Skylen and raise him as her own. She meant to revive him at the age he was, but found that such a task was impossible for her. Instead, she had to bring him back to a state before he was born and give birth to him herself.

In the end, she realized that this was better. There were those that would wonder how she came to posses a newborn. More importantly, Skylen's mother might discover the baby the peasant had was actually hers and reclaim what was rightfully hers. This was not something the peasant wanted. It would ruin her plans. If she gave birth to Skylen no one would think twice about his identity, or if he actually belonged to the peasant. They would think that fact she gave birth to him meant that he did. The peasant never hid the identity of his father from him. She told him exactly whom he was, but also told him that he couldn't tell a single sole.

She told him that this was because his father had many enemies that would hurt or use Skylen to get back at his father. She told him that her father wanted his son raised away from the politics of the clans in order to protect him from the backlash of being his son, and when the time was right and when he believed his son was strong enough to endure whatever his enemies might throw at him he would come for him. She tried to discourage him from using any abilities that might draw the attention of the main house. Her attempts failed. Skylen found not using his abilities was as easy as not breathing. Meaning it was impossible.

He went off to hone these abilities away from the woman he called mother disapproving glare. It was here that he discovered that he had a great affinity for water. In fact, he believes that his ability to use water is stronger than his telepathic one. More than that he feels a deep connection to the sea. It calls to him in ways that he cannot explain. He feels strange and out of place whenever he isn't near it or even inside it. So, whenever he can be found near or in the sea he will be.

Present

It is said that eventually the truth is always revealed, and for Skylen that moment came sixteen years after the women he believed was his mother gave birth to him. He was enjoying the wild hunt with one of his friends. Actually, the pair of them had decided to abandon the hunt in favor of exploring the forbidden forest the fairies called their home when his biological mother caught scent of him. Sensing something familiar about him, she ordered her familiar, whom she had just met moments prior, to capture Skylen and his friend. Once captured, she realized whom he was and demanded that Skylen tell him whom his 'mother' was. Skylen refused to tell her anything.

He knew the rumors that surrounded the woman before him. Knew what she was capable of, and wanted to protect the woman he called mother against her wrath. She was family and one is suppose to protect family against those that wish them harm, and at the time his biological mother made it clear that she wanted nothing more than to hurt the one whom had her son for all these years. He didn't know if her rage over the entire incident would calm down, or if it would continue to grow and she would hurt the woman he called mother in the ways that she was infamous for. It was not a risk he was willing to take.

His biological mother unable to convince him to tell her decided that it might be best to find her daughter and head of the Paxton clan to question him. She believed that the clan head's judgement over the situation wouldn't be clouded by her emotions. His father somehow found out about his biological mother desire to have his adopted mother's head over the entire incident went out to deliver it to her, and Skylen left the main estate to stop him. He discovered his own familiar along the way and hopes that he doesn't arrive too late to save the woman he had called mother all these years.
